People are Ruler

Introduction

In the early stages of community, people lived together in tribes, forming small communities. Their main goal was to protect each other from various dangers. As time passed, private property became more common, leading to the development of states. Unlike tribes, which were around family ties, states are social entities governed by rules that apply to everyone. Leaders, often nobles or elected representatives, were chosen to govern the state and manage its affairs. One of the famous governance methods is democracy and it is said that the election is the first step for democracy.

Democracy

Democracy is a system of government in which laws, policies, leadership, and major undertakings of a State are directly or indirectly decided by the people. In a direct democracy, (e.g., Switcher land) the rulers and the major issues are finalized directly by the people. In indirect democracy or representative democracy, the representatives are chosen by the people. The representative makes decision-making as a representative of the people. 

Election

Election is a fundamental aspect of democratic systems, allowing citizens to participate in governance by selecting the representatives. It is a systematic process through which officials are selected. It is used in the private sector too. It is the highest efficient tool in group decision-making. In this system, the Voice of the majority is considered as the voice of the Society. At the same time, the rights of minorities are also protected by ensuring the reservation.

Democratic values

There are values which ensured by democratic societies and serve as guiding principles for governance. Democratic values emphasize the rights, freedom, and equality of individuals within a society. Individual liberty, equality among the citizens, participation of the individuals, and respecting the plurality are the key factors of democracy. In short, democratic values focus on respecting the dignity and autonomy of individuals to promote social justice.

Reflection

There is a continuous accusation on the government for diminishing the democratic values in the democracy. When the government fails to fulfill the needs of the people or impose certain generalized rules on all to foster uniformity, the government violates the norms of democracy. In this situation, the people must fight to safeguard the values of the democracy. Because they are the rulers in the democracy. The ruler must safeguard the governance system.

According to Plato and Aristotle, the ruler must be intelligent and virtuous. Since people are the rulers of the democracy, they must be intelligent and virtuous. Rulers (people) must care for the welfare of their nation. They must have some quality time for their nation to acquire the knowledge and they must cast their vote ethically without any favouritism.

Since election is the weapon of citizens, people must use it wisely. If they fail to use this tool wisely and ethically, they set tyranny and people become tyrants.
